Like I said before, I am always moving between trucks so this antenna has stood up to that sort of treatment. I tried taping it but if it was raining or icy the tape would not stick.I figured it would be better to spend the extra money and get a beefy truck antenna instead of another hockey puck type that would probably break again. The antenna that came with the radio (hockey puck type) broke within a month from moving it around so much even though I was very careful with it. I thought I would be replacing the cable by now, but after hundreds of door slams it is still in good shape.
It was also difficult keeping it in place on the truck's round mirror bracket. I am a professional truck driver who gets into a different truck every day and I always take my Sirius radio with me. I have the antenna mounted to a pair of Vice-Grips that I use to quickly clamp to the mirror of the truck. In any case reception is always very good except under some overpasses, but that is the limitation of the technology not really the fault of the antenna. Boy did I make the right decision with this antenna.
The cable I just run between the door and the frame. If you move your radio around a lot, I highly recommend this antenna. The thin wire broke right at the antenna itself and there was no way to repair it. The cable is thicker than the one that comes with the hockey puck type, but it is very flexible. I have owned it for about a year now and couldn't be happier.
It is very durable and I like the fact that the cable can be easily replaced without buying a whole new unit. Some truck antennas I have seen come with a very thick cable that is almost as thick as the coax for cable television and I personally think that is too thick at least for my purposes.I also use the antenna at home sometimes by propping it up outside. It is great for large trucks and worth every penny.
Recieved antenna in a short time. All items needed to mount on truck were included.Easy to read directions. Ten minute installation
My truck has a fiberglass roof and a large air dam that blocked the signal and with the fiberglass roof it made mounting the other antenna difficult. With the hockey puck style antenna my reception was fair at best and never went above 2 bars on the radio. With this antenna it rarely goes below three bars of signal strength (full signal) It was easy to mount & well constructed. I would recommend it highly
This is a great product. It is very well made and you never loose the signal. I would recommend this product highly.
You can mount the antenna on the mirror bracket on the left or right side of the Tractor. You'll get the best reception for your SIRIUS satellite radio. Much more powerful than the small antenna that comes with your SIRIUS radio. You won't loose the signal unless you are under a bridge or the antenna does not have a clear path to the sky. Works well under hazardous weather conditions also.
